ATM File Transfer Module |
 |
The Information Technology, Inc. Automated Teller Machine File Transfer Module (AFT) allows a financial institution's customers access to ATMs on a network, whether or not the institution is a network member.
If an institution does have ATMs but is not affiliated with a network, it may use the AFT module to expand access and services for customers. This module allows institutions to offer customers network ATM services, including cash withdrawals, funds transfer and balance inquiries. In addition, the AFT module gives an institution's customers convenient access to ATMs at any location on the network.
System Summary
The AFT module provides for the exchange of account information with a remote ATM processor by magnetic tape or through data communication lines. With this data exchange, a remote processor maintains current account information, which an institution's customers may access at ATMs on the processor's network. Most functions are controlled through specifications and require minimal operator intervention. ATM transactions are entered onto the system automatically, saving processing time and reducing the chance for lost items.
Sending Information
The data sent from an institution to its processor includes account information, a majority of which is provided through ATM and AFT specifications. This information is used to authorize transactions and provide current information for account inquiries.
To send account information, an institution runs a single program after each update. The program creates a Strip File which contains information on every account that may be accessed by a customer's debit card.
Receiving Information
Items an institution receives from a processor are ATM transactions that the institution's customers have completed on the processor's network, this information is used to update customer accounts. Account information sent by a processor is translated into a standard ITI file format, included in the institution's update, and automatically posted to customer accounts.
Information Selection
The AFT module may be used to transfer a variety of information to remote processors. Through AFT, information may be selected or excluded to meet processors' needs. Information that may be selected includes:
Information only for accounts active in the last update. A variety of balance types (memo available balance, ledger balance, etc.) Balance information for each of up to 10 accounts that may be accessed by a debit card. Separate balances for inquiry and withdrawal purposes for each account. Withdrawal limits for each customer. A list of stolen debit cards and closed accounts.
